Day 2: 10 Things You Love About Lolita

1.) Attention to detail- Unlike a lot of massproduced garments, lolita brands focus on matching up the prints so that even at the seams it looks like its forever continuing, and the line doesn’t stop the print. This is much costly when cutting fabric, but the fact that they are willing to do this makes me so happy that they pay extra care in the construction of a garment.

2.) DIY- I love how lolita brings out the creativity in everyone. People who have never sewn, or made anything in their lives, will consider to make one or try. They step out of their comfort zone and try something new.

3.) Confidence- I love how if you’re a lolita and have stepped out of your home, you are brave enough to walk into the world not looking like the rest of the norm. It takes a lot courage and self confidence to love yourself, and love what you’re wearing in public. I love it!

4.) New Friends- I made so many new and wonderful friends. I feel like I’m no longer an outsider like I have felt in HS because of these girls that share many common interests with me.

5.) Styles- I love how lolitas interpret their personal style into the fashion. Many of my idols are very avant garde on their style, and incorporate modern trends into lolita. Its one of the few styles where you can wear a bouquet of roses or a skull on your head and be wicked awesome!

6.) Presence- I love how lolita makes you feel like a queen or princess. They say the fashion takes elements from the Victorian, Rococo, and Edwardian eras, but really I think it brings in more of the feel of elegance even if you’re in pastel pink or in a burgandy JSK. You feel pretty, as if you were going to a royal party, or fantasy party with magical creatures.

7.) Prints- I’d be lying if I said i didn’t like the prints. I loooove prints in lolita, repetitive, border or even embroidery. Its as if I’m wearing art, or better yet, I am a walking piece of art <3

8.) Makeup- I love how many girls learn to apply makeup. Many go the more exaggerated doll like look, but at the same time, you learn about “natural makeup.” and even learning to show your prettier side outside of your frills.

9.) Feminine beauty- I realized that with many girls that wear lolita, their sense of style outside of lolita changes. If they were tomboyish to begin with, they will start to become more feminine. I don’t mind a woman being a tomboy, but its sort of cool, that they say, hey I like doing masculine stuff while still being pretty. Its like appreciating both sides of the sexes.

10.) The Adventures- Lolita has its highs and lows, but it feels like one big fantastic adventure to wear the frills and be out and about. I love all of it the good and the bad, and I love all the opportunities and path that it opens. Its like I’m Dorothy following the yellow brick road, but a road with various directions in which you can go.

Day 1: 10 things about your Lolita Bubble

I will be doing the 30 day Lolita challenge. Enjoy!

1.) I entered the fashion trying to be a more classic/country lolita but ended up wearing mostly sweet mostly because the events here in Cali are all sweet oriented…

2.) I tend to circulate my wardrobe a lot. I don’t have a lot of dresses because I tend to trade them or sell them off to buy a new dress. Though lately i’ve been keeping mostly my dream dresses and more casual looks and trading everything else.

3.) I make a lot of my dresses, and pride myself at how much money I can save by making my own dress. I’ve made a ton of dresses under 10 dollars with good quality fabric!

4.) For the longest, I didn’t have a pink jsk, which is reallllyyyyy weird!

5.) I really love themes in lolita. They give me direction when planning an outfit.

6.) I don’t always buy the JSKs I want because I always end up buying something else, usually food or another lolita item

7.) I stalk Closet Child like a mad woman.

8.) I like to sketch out my outfits. That is my main planning process.

9.) I listen to music when ever I walk out alone in lolita. It helps me ignore random stares and comments

10.) Public transportation is usually my main form of transportation, even in lolita.

These are just the sample versions but the production version is so much more beautiful. I wore them out and they feel so light and breezy, it was almost as if I wasn’t wearing tights. Definitely didn’t feel sweaty and gross in them. It can be hot out and you can still wear these with no problem!

I feel like it sort of sucks that I am not following the herd into a graduate program, but at the same time, for my major, it is a bit useless to enter a graduate program for Fashion Design.

In the fashion industry, its the skill and experience, along with connections that are key points to obtaining a higher level job. Of course there is still the education acquired from college, but its like any art major, in the end its how flexible your skill is and how amazing is your portfolio, and are you able to do the basic requirements needed for the job.

I think about this and I feel like I did the right thing. I went to school obtained the skills required for the job I wanted and got a good job in the industry. At the same time, due to the major I have chosen, it follows a more unconventional path than if I were to major in something else…

I guess I’ll never really follow the herd afterall…

After being in lolita for about 5 years, I realized that my lolita lifestyle created itself on its own. Many assume its filled with tea parties, and anything sweet. Truth is, it may seem to start out that way, but usually, it evolves to being something much more.

Through wearing Lolita, I made many new friends, more than ever before. I met such interesting people, and attended oh so many events! My life is pretty much all about the next event or hangout. My lifestyle involved going to Sanrio parties, San-X events, conventions, and other japan related events, and volunteering for many of these events. I even met a hand full of designers and celebrities.

This became my “lolita lifestyle” for a while.

I am posting this because many girls who start lolita assume the lolita lifestyle is all about drinking tea and being proper. That is not true. Sure you can attend tea parties and meetups revolving around sweets, but you’ll soon find, that eventually your lifestyle will blend with your non lolita life to involve much more than just tea and pastries.

I still don’t consider myself to be a loltia lifestyler. In fact, this isn’t just limited to lolita now, its a part of my daily life.

My Etude House Dear Girls BB cream and Sweet Recipe Jelly lipstick arrived!

I highly recommend their products, the prices are literally the same as if you were to buy them from a drug store, and are better quality with cuter packaging.

However, what made Etude House my favorite brand aside from all its other qualities is that they do not test on animals and promote the idea of going green. How amazing is that!

That feeling of when you order something and it is to be released a month or more from when you order it… And you’re in the mid-waiting period and it feels as if it will never come.
